There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that contains numerous comforts aside from the gambling den, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 tables.
